Change keeps accelerating. Today, we are entering the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is also considered to be the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Era. The combination of digitalisation, Internet of Things (IoT) and big data are causing a ‘data explosion’. Consequently the use of AI is becoming increasingly essential in the public transport sector, especially in railways, to effectively and efficiently cultivate the billions of data points generated each year. This presentation is based on the recent project from UITP Asia-Pacific Center for Transport Excellence on the topic of Artificial Intelligence in Mass Public Transport; it showcases use-cases of AI applicatons in public transport, especially in rail, and guiding principles on deploying AI-driven projects.
