Network Rail’s vision of the future includes the use of mathematical models to forecast faults and introduce an innovative predictive maintenance method in the future which is based on AI and big data analysis, to forecast faults and tailor maintenance programmes more efficiently and effectively. Furthermore, the company is also using augmented reality for training purposes and Google glasses for real-time streaming of infrastructure inspections.
