Q&A with Ian Rainey, Northeast Maglev: Revolutionise travel in the Northeast Corridor

In this video interview, Ian Rainey, Senior Vice President at Northeast Maglev, spoke to Global Railway Review about the technology behind the Northeast Maglev project and its benefits to travellers, the environment and the economy, and what’s next for development.
At the UIC’s High-Speed Congress in March 2023, Global Railway Review interviewed Ian Rainey, Senior Vice President of the Northeast Maglev to understand more about how the Superconducting Maglev (SCMAGLEV) – the world’s fastest and most advanced train – can revolutionise travel in the Northeast Corridor; home to 17% of the U.S. population and 20% of U.S. jobs – all on a land area that represents just 2% of the United States
Travel between the major cities of the Northeast Corridor is predicted to increase by 115% by 2040, so bringing the next generation of high-speed transportation to the Northeast Corridor is crucial.
In this video interview, Ian explores the core potential benefits of the Northeast Maglev for commuters and travelers, costs and funding of the project, plus its environmental impact and benefits to the economy.
Ian previously served in the U.S. government as a Policy Advisor to the Secretary of Defense, and as an officer in the Navy. Ian is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
