For February’s episode of The Right Track, Global Railway Review’s newest podcast series, we spoke to Maggie Simpson OBE, Director General and Phil Smart, Assistant Policy Manager, of the Rail Freight Group.
Rail Freight Group (RFG) is the representative body for rail freight in the UK. Their members include rail freight operators, logistics companies, ports, equipment suppliers, property developers and support services, as well as retailers, construction companies and other customers. Their aim is to increase the volume of goods moved by rail.
In this podcast, we discuss the current state of the rail freight sector and the challenges it’s facing, from the lack of electrification to the capacity constraints. We then look to the possible solutions to these issues, through growth potential, network needs and decarbonisation targets.
“Growing freight on the railway is will not just happen because someone has set a target for it to happen.”
