Directly integrated into the glazing of windows, smart window technology can broadcast videos with informational or promotional content, and offer passengers the ability to change window opacity to enhance their journey experience

smart train window

On the strength of its expertise in electronically dimmable windows for the aeronautic and marine markets, Vision Systems will present its latest innovations adapted to the rail market at Middle East Rail in Dubai on 25-26 February 2020. On display will be their smart shading systems and partition solutions: a multi-zone dimmable window, a dimmable divider with an integrated information display, and a concept of a glass partition that can play videos.

Enhanced passenger comfort

Vision Systems’ dimmable windows provide a high level of optical quality and reliability. They make it possible to eliminate shades that clutter up the space, block the view and require regular maintenance. Directly integrated into the glazing, they allow the passengers to instantly change the opacity of their window, or part of it, from transparent to dark, in order to regulate glare and heat entering in, while preserving the view. They enhance visual, thermal and acoustic comfort for a greater wellness atmosphere.

Privacy

They also ensure privacy from the outside of the coach. An additional privacy option offers temporary view obstruction from the inside of the coach (opaque white or dark) when it is necessary to protect certain areas from view, or for specific staging in touristic trains.

The control is easy, directly at each seat, through a centralised control panel for coach-wide master control, or automatically with integrated light or temperature sensors.

Protection from unwanted light and heat

The multi-zone version that will be exhibited at the trade show is a dimmable solution that resembles a digital shade, providing opacity control of a chosen zone to protect from unwanted light, for a greater comfort and traveling experience.

Vision Systems’ solutions block more than 99.9 per cent of harmful UV light (even in transparent state) to protect the passengers and to prevent interior furnishing from fading, and an integrated IR barrier can strengthen heat blockage.

Moreover, they turn dark when the train is stopped, keeping the interior cooler for low air-conditioning consumption and energy savings.

The integrated electronics of the system facilitate installation in original equipment or retrofitting and reduces maintenance (no moving parts, easy-cleaning) and downtime. Besides, with its strong experience in composite solutions, Vision Systems can provide a complete solution including a high-end composite frame.

On-window information displays and videos

Vision Systems will also exhibit a dimmable divider with an integrated information display that gives travel information such as time, temperature, remaining kilometres, or a service availability, in addition to providing a smart privacy system.

Another concept of glass partition will be displayed that allows the operator to broadcast videos with informational or promotional content. This system offers privacy between classes too.

The elegant design of Vision Systems’ smart solutions convey a modern image for brand differentiation.

Vision Systems will also display a camera monitoring system comprising high-definition cameras and interior displays, for enhanced safety and security. For trains or trams, the solution provides passenger safety along the sides of the coach and video recording for legal purposes. This smart system with specific functionalities for buses and motor-coaches is already produced in series for European clients and tests are underway in America, Middle East and Asia.
