The Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking (S2R JU) has issued projects worth €146.6 million which will be funded under its 2020 Call for Proposals for Research & Innovation activities, within the framework of the S2R Annual Work Plan 2020.
There are 19 topics of which eight are open to S2R Members (CFM) and 11 to non-JU Members (OC). The Call is expected to raise high interest in the transport community and beyond and is an opportunity for the rail sector to join forces and through the funded R&I activities contribute to delivering the European Green Deal.
Carlo Borghini, Executive Director of the Shift2Rail JU, highlighted the main objectives of the upcoming Shift2Rail Call 2020: “With the Shift2Rail Call for Proposals 2020 we aim to take our innovative solutions to the next level, demonstrating their potential together with our Members and the sector at large during InnoTrans 2020. Our goal is to move beyond Research and Innovation to ensure market uptake of our forward-looking solutions, and to contribute substantially in meeting the expectations highlighted for rail in the European Commission’s Communication on “The European Green Deal”. We are looking for promising ideas that will help us pave the way for our next R&I programme.”
The indicative H2020 co-funding made available by the S2R JU for this Call is €75,4 million, out of an estimated projects’ value of around €146,6 million. The S2R JU is looking forward to a broader participation to the 2020 Call, both geographically and in terms of synergies, allowing for new S2R activities that will drive innovation to deliver a bright future for railway.
