Freightliner Limited has signed a new multi-million pound contract with Maersk Line, the world’s largest shipping line
The multi-year agreement provides Maersk with committed space for the transportation of boxes from the UK’s largest container port, Felixstowe, and throughout Freightliner’s network.
Freightliner provides the most comprehensive service from Felixstowe offering 21 daily services to 15 destinations across the UK, providing Maersk with flexible and robust inland forwarding solutions.
Adam Cunliffe, Managing Director, Freightliner Limited, commented:
“We are delighted to have renewed our partnership with Maersk and look forward to continuing to provide support as a key part of Maersk’s UK supply chain. Freightliner is committed to provide to Maersk the most comprehensive rail based solution, including for the first time 30 wagon services using PowerHaul, increasing capacity for our customers and the rail network.”
Mark Cornwell, Operations Director UK, Maersk, added:
“During the past 5 years Freightliner have offered Maersk a highly flexible and responsive service which is a key requirement for Maersk. The renewed arrangements with Freightliner further provide operational reliability and sustainability in an uncertain market environment.”
The contract commenced on 28 February 2011 and provides for the movement by rail of up to 190,000 containers each year saving over 63,000 tonnes of co2 on equivalent road moves.
