The state-owned Hungarian railway company MÁV has awarded a contract to Funkwerk Information Technologies GmbH (Funkwerk IT) for delivery of a nationwide information system for networked pro-active monitoring of railway traffic in Hungary as part of its FOR project. With the new system, which will integrate the already existing sub-systems, MÁV is consistently pursuing a policy of standardisation and integration of the Hungarian planning and operations processes into the European railway network and discrimination-free access to the MÁV network for other transport companies. The project has a volume of approx. 3.5 million Euros (933 MHUF).
Funkwerk IT won the tender against strong international competition with its operations control technology platform TRAVIS which has been successfully used in Europe for many years.
The advanced version of the TRAVIS architecture forms the cornerstone of the new system which will have approximately 800 workplaces to monitor railway traffic throughout the country. The advantages of Funkwerk’s solution are its modular architecture and open interfaces for integration of MÁV’s existing systems. Furthermore, the system is future-proof thanks to modern, maintenance-friendly computer technology.
The pilot implementation on the Budapest-Hegyeshalom section is to go into operation as early as six months after the project is commenced. It is planned to complete the entire project within a period of only 18 months.
