Invensys Rail will be demonstrating a number of its market-leading systems and solutions at this year’s Infrarail exhibition, as well as showcasing the company’s proven manufacturing capability. Among the systems on display will be the company’s Modular Signalling Solution.

Developed to allow a wide range of signalling schemes to be implemented from a small range of core components, this system delivers high standards of safety and performance, cost-effectively. Essentially, Modular Signalling Solutions allow rail operators to improve the cost, efficiency and availability of their baseline signalling, providing completely integrated systems that are installed and tested in a safe, efficient and repeatable manner – requiring significantly less time on site.

Infrarail visitors will also have an opportunity to view and discuss the company’s manufacturing range, which includes Pre-wired Signalling Equipment, Relays and Electronic Solutions. With a 60,000m2 manufacturing base in the UK and continued, sustained investment in both process and development programmes, Invensys specialises in high-variety, medium volume manufacture, offering a wide range of both standard and bespoke equipment.

Already one of the largest manufacturers of location cases in the UK, the company invested further in this facility through 2009, extending its capacity to meet demand from both UK and overseas projects for location cases, REBs, racks and cubicles – as well as for low volume bespoke equipment, such as Train Describers and Alarm Cubicles.

Relay production remains a core part of the company’s offer and with a pedigree stretching back over 100 years, it remains the world’s largest supplier of BR930 Series products. With an annual capacity approaching 150,000 units, the company offers over 460 variants of mechanical relay for both train-borne and control centre applications.

Also on display will be examples of Electronics products which drive the company’s CBTC, ERTMS, ATP/ATO and interlocking solutions. With safety at the heart of all the company’s operations, a significant emphasis is placed on production techniques and testing regimes to ensure continued quality and reliability of performance. For example the Printed Circuit Board facility features state of the art surface mount capability, with testing taking place both at board and final unit assembly stages, simulating, where appropriate, customers’ own designs or configurations.

Supporting the manufacturing process are teams of production and design engineers who provide support to both the internal manufacturing units and to customers. Lean manufacturing is central to the company’s philosophy, with a continuous improvement programme designed to bring forward product and process enhancements quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively.
