RZD Holding and Iranian Railways have agreed to cooperate to develop the electrification of railway infrastructure.
On 28 March in Moscow, Oleg Belozerov, President of Russian Railways, and Said Mohammadzadeh, Chairman of the Board and President of the joint-stock company Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, made the agreement official by signing a memorandum on the strategic cooperation on railway electrification.
Further electrification works
Furthermore, also on 28 March, Russian Railways and Islamic Republic of Iran Railways signed a contract for the electrification of the railway stretch between Garmsar and Ince Burun along with the supply of Russian equipment and materials, in a deal worth €1.2 billion.
This was signed by Sergei Pavlov, Managing Director of RZD International (a subsidiary of Russian Railways), and Said Mohammadzadeh, Chairman of the Board and President of the joint-stock company Islamic Republic of Iran Railways.
Mutual cooperation
The two sides noted the high level of mutual cooperation and expressed their intention to transfer the experience gained from implementing the electrification project between Garmsar and Inche Burun (Iran) to other potential joint projects.
