The Trainline app is available to IOS and Android users and with the new push notifications, customers on single-led journeys are alerted if their service becomes delayed by 15 minutes or more. Furthermore, for customers on multi-leg journeys they will receive an alert if their service is delayed by five minutes or more, on the basis that smaller delays can have a greater impact on catching a connecting train. In addition, all customers who have notifications enabled are sent information on the current departure time for their journeys 60 minutes ahead of when they are scheduled to depart.
Through working closely with the rail industry, Trainline was able to harness data from its Darwin system to provide train travelers with timely and personalised information on their journeys. This helps to manage their expectations and prevent potential overcrowding at stations, as the delay notifications can ensure a more seamless journey experience for customers as well as impact when they choose to arrive at stations.
Milena Nikolic, Trainline’s Chief Technology Officer, said: “Introducing personalised in-app delay notifications means customers travelling for leisure or work can feel more in control of their journey. By making the experience of travelling by train easier – especially as people return to commuting following COVID-19 restrictions easing – we’re encouraging more people to choose rail over other less sustainable modes of transport.”
