Overview

CAF is one of the international benchmarks in the implementation of comprehensive rail transit systems. Proximity and awareness of customers’ needs allow CAF to design comprehensive and complete high added-value solutions, developed based on the company’s own state-of-the-art technologies, tailored to meet the specific needs of each Transport Authority, minimising operating cycle costs.

CAF provides comprehensive project and engineering management throughout all stages of the project including feasibility analysis and investigations, system design, civil work, signalling, electrification and other electromechanical systems, rolling stock supply and system operation and maintenance.

One of CAF’s more substantial turnkey project at the moment is Kaohsiung Tramway in Taiwan. CAF has participated in the construction of the first phase of the circular line of the light rail in the city of Kaohsiung. It is a turnkey project in which CAF is responsible for supplying rolling stock, signalling, electrification and the ticketing system. CAF is also responsible for the project management and integration engineering of all the subsystems. Other significant milestones of the company include the concession of Mexico’s Suburban Railway System 1, the construction of Mexico D.F. – Toluca commuter line as well as the participation in the construction of the metro line connecting the airport with New Delhi City Centre (Express Metro) or the turnkey project for the design and manufacture of the first metro line in Algiers.

In terms of rolling stock, CAF has supplied different types of rail vehicles around the globe: high speed trains, regional and commuter trains, passenger cars, metro units, trams, articulated units and locomotives. The Company’s commitment to R&D has resulted in the development of several platforms: Oaris 350 km/h Very High Speed Trains, the Civity family of low floor modular regional and commuter trains or Urbos, and a wide variety of metro vehicles and trams.

Among the latest contracts of the company, highlights include the projects for the supply of Oaris high speed trains for Flytoget in Norway, regional Civity trains for First Group and Arriva UK operators in the UK, new Civity trains for NS in the Netherlands, passenger coaches for Caledonian Sleeper, fully automated metro units for Istanbul and Santiago de Chile and trams for the cities of Budapest, Luxembourg, Utrecht and Canberra in Australia.

CAF operates production facilities in Spain, France, USA, Brazil and Mexico to implement these projects.
