Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced today that it has been selected to install the power control system along the Vigo-Santiago de Compostela-Coruña line, operated by the Spanish infrastructure administrator, Adif. Telvent will develop, install and share maintenance of its energy telecontrol system for the rail line. The installation is scheduled to be completed in 2012.

As the main railway agency in Spain, Adif is responsible for the administration and maintenance of the low- and high-speed national railway network and its infrastructure. It promotes the Spanish railway system with the development of a safe, efficient and sustainable mode of transportation for all citizens. Adif has used Telvent’s control systems solutions for several previous lines and once again turned to Telvent to ensure the new high-speed line would achieve optimal energy efficiency.

The power control system, based on Telvent’s OASyS supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) platform and remote terminal units, allows railway operators to closely monitor the energy needs along the line and improve the efficiency of the electric distribution network. Telvent also will share maintenance responsibilities for the substation and catenary switches along the line. With Telvent’s technology and commitment, Adif will increase reliability of installations, seamlessly operate with other traffic control systems and streamline operations for the railway line, thereby meeting the agency’s objective of providing a sustainable transportation infrastructure. The railway operator will also have the ability to restore service more quickly in the case of an incident.

According to Telvent’s chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, “As a leading provider of power control solutions, we are proud to work with Adif to expand its high-speed infrastructure. Adif’s commitment to making rail the ideal form of transportation in Spain is laudable and this partnership furthers Telvent’s own mission of providing sustainable technology solutions around the world.”

The Adif project builds on Telvent’s 30-year relationship of supplying electric and traffic control subsystems to the agency. Telvent previously worked with Adif to install electrical control equipment for the high-speed Madrid-Valencia-Albacete, Córdoba-Málaga, Madrid-Segovia-Valladolid, and Madrid-Barcelona-French border lines.
