PTV orders 9 additional X’Trapolis trainsets for Melbourne suburban rail network

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) has signed a contract with Alstom for the supply of nine additional X’Trapolis trainsets for the Melbourne suburban rail network.
Public Transport Victoria (PTV) has signed a contract with Alstom for the supply of nine additional X’Trapolis trainsets for the Melbourne suburban rail network.
In a contract worth approximately €100 million, Alstom will supply nine additional X’Trapolis trainsets to Public Transport Victoria (PTV), Australia. Production of the new vehicles will begin in late 2017 with delivery expected in late 2018. In total 101 trains have been delivered from Alstom’s manufacturing facility in Ballarat to PTV since 2002.
Delivery of X’Trapolis trainsets expected in 2018
According to Alstom, the 145 metre X’Trapolis train is composed of six cars and has been designed to carry up to 1,430 passengers whilst maximising passenger experience.
Mark Coxon, Managing Director of Alstom in Australia and New Zealand commented on the order: “We are proud to have been trusted by the Victorian government to supply a further 9 trains from our industrial base in Ballarat. This will guarantee regional jobs, training and investment and ensure ongoing support to Alstom’s extensive network of local suppliers. These new trains will provide additional transport capacity to the residents of Melbourne’s area and allow them to commute on-board a reliable, comfortable and environmental-friendly mode of transport.”
