KfW IPEX-Bank is financing the purchase of twelve diesel railcars for Regentalbahn AG, a subsidiary of NETINERA Deutschland GmbH, that are slated for operation in the eastern Bavarian regional network. The corresponding agreements were recently signed. It is already the second business transaction concluded between KfW IPEX-Bank and the NETINERA Group, which is the second biggest private provider of LRPT services in Germany.
The NETINERA Group, which continues to expand, was awarded in 2011 the contract to operate the regional network in eastern Bavaria including the sub-networks Waldbahn, Naabtalbahn and Oberpfalzbahn. The railcars will be operated under the Oberpfalzbahn brand and run mainly on the line from Regensburg to Schirnding via Marktredwitz as of December 2014.
This will mark the first time that railcars of the type LINK 2 by the Polish manufacturer PESA will be in operation in Germany. The newly developed diesel trains linking these destinations are state-of-the-art and fully comply with the latest European Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI).
The first railcar of the series is currently being tested in Germany. It will make its first run when the timetable changes in December 2014.
