After fourteen years involvement with the Baltic States and their railways, it amazes that their un-fenced railways and mainly barrier-less level crossings do not create carnage.
Obviously there are far fewer trains than in Britain, and in the main they are slower, but could it be that the public and drivers here are thick?
Dear Tony, I think it depends on two things. One thing is the awareness by the public – so if we think (like USA) everything must be covered by a law and the single user is never responsible for the own behaviour – then it will get in the wrong direction. And the second thing is how to deal with these events. And both are in the Baltic States – in my opinion – different than in the EU. We Need big awareness campaigns and also punishment which creates pain to the money bag of the Level Crossing user. Best regards Ludwig
